The Memorial Rehab Adaptive Sports & Recreation Bowl-A-Thon successfully raised over $30,000 to support year-round adaptive sports and fitness programs for individuals with physical disabilities, highlighting community commitment to inclusion and accessibility.

The 9th Annual Memorial Rehab Adaptive Sports & Recreation Bowl-A-Thon generated more than $30,000 in funding to expand adaptive sports, fitness, and recreation programs for children and adults with physical disabilities. Nearly 400 bowlers and community partners participated in the event at Sparez Bowling Lanes, demonstrating strong community support for disability inclusion initiatives.
Kelley Morris, president of the Memorial and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundations, emphasized the event's significance, stating that every dollar raised creates opportunities for individuals with physical disabilities to thrive. The Bowl-A-Thon reflects the community's generosity and shared commitment to inclusion and hope for adaptive athletes of all ages.
The funds will support the Memorial Rehab Adaptive Sports & Recreation Program, which provides year-round adaptive therapy and recreational sports for individuals living with physical disabilities resulting from stroke, spinal cord or brain injury, amputation, and other conditions. Activities include wheelchair tennis, adaptive bowling, cycling, rowing, mountain biking, and fishing, helping participants achieve independence, emotional recovery, and community reintegration.
Financial support from the event helps cover equipment costs, transportation, and entry fees, eliminating financial obstacles that often prevent participation in adaptive sports programs. This funding model ensures that individuals can access these vital services regardless of their economic circumstances.
The event's success was supported by numerous sponsors including Memorial Hospital Pembroke Medical Staff, Strive Recreational Therapy, OPC Prosthetic Centers, and Hanger Clinic. Other significant contributors included Greenpoint Building, Memorial Hospital Miramar Medical Staff, and the Price Family Foundation. Additional support came from Comforts of Home, Universal Drywall and Plastering, and several other community organizations.
The Memorial Foundation, which played a leading role in organizing the event, raises philanthropic funds to assist patients and families while underwriting programs, facilities, and equipment throughout the Memorial Healthcare System.
