In a significant development for sports fans across the Mountain West region, Altitude Sports has returned to Xfinity TV, ending a prolonged broadcasting dispute that had left many viewers unable to watch Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche games. The agreement between Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE) and Comcast restores access to live game broadcasts across Colorado, New Mexico, and parts of Arizona and Kansas.
The deal represents a major shift in the regional sports broadcasting landscape, offering viewers multiple ways to access content. Xfinity customers can watch Altitude Sports on channel 1250 through the More Sports and Entertainment package for $15.95 monthly, while internet-only customers can stream games via the Altitude+ app for $19.95 per month.
This resolution carries particular significance given the recent success of both teams, with the Avalanche winning the Stanley Cup and the Nuggets claiming their first NBA championship. The agreement ensures fans can watch star players like Nikola Jokić and Nathan MacKinnon during their prime years without resorting to alternative viewing methods.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston highlighted the agreement's importance to the city and its sports culture, noting that this deal provides fans with straightforward access to games. The arrangement also maintains existing free over-the-air broadcasts on 9NEWS and My20, ensuring broad accessibility across different viewing platforms.
The return of Altitude Sports to Xfinity marks a significant victory for regional sports networks at a time when many face challenges in the evolving media landscape. This agreement could serve as a template for similar disputes in other markets, demonstrating how traditional cable providers and regional sports networks can adapt to changing viewer preferences while maintaining traditional distribution methods.
