Children's author Angeli Skalberg has released her second book, Bubs & Chubs Were Made for More, a story that uses two caterpillars to explore themes of faith, courage, and divine purpose. The book, published by Lucid Books, an independent hybrid publisher in the Houston area, is now available.
The story follows Bubs and Chubs, two caterpillars living a comfortable life with plenty of green leaves and warm sunshine. While Chubs is content with their existence, Bubs is haunted by a persistent question: Is there more? That question sets off a journey of transformation as Bubs chooses to trust Jesus and follow where He leads, even when the path is uncertain. Eventually, Chubs also discovers that he, too, was created for more.
Inspired by Proverbs 3:5–6, which calls believers to trust in the Lord rather than their own understanding, the book aims to give parents, grandparents, teachers, and caregivers an approachable tool for discussing faith, purpose, obedience, and courage with children. "Deep in his heart, Bubs feels that Jesus created him for something greater," Skalberg writes. "Even when the journey feels scary and uncertain, Bubs chooses to listen to that gentle voice guiding him forward."
The story also examines the tension between comfort and calling. Chubs represents the part of us that prefers to stay where life feels familiar, while Bubs wonders if there is something beyond what he can see. Neither knows what the future holds, but Bubs learns that trusting Jesus can lead to a life he never imagined. The central message Skalberg hopes children will carry with them is simple: "You were MADE for MORE."
Skalberg's own life reflects that message. She lives in the countryside outside a small rural town in Wyoming with her husband of more than 30 years. Together they have five children and many grandchildren. Her heart for service has taken her around the world, exposing her to different people, cultures, and needs. Her first children's book, Baby Llama Has a New Mama, was inspired by the adoption of her youngest daughter from Ethiopia.
