Arlington, Texas, traditionally known for its sports stadiums, is quietly transforming into the heart of the North Texas innovation economy, according to Pamela Cytron, President of The Founder's Arena. In a recent episode of The Building Texas Show, recorded live at America's House during SXSW 2026 in Austin, Cytron detailed why she relocated to North Texas in the summer of 2023 and how she is leveraging Arlington's geography to dismantle regional silos between Dallas and Fort Worth.
"I like to refer to Arlington, now that I've been there two and a half years, as the North Texas corridor," Cytron told host Justin McKenzie. "Because what we found is Arlington smack dab, like in the right middle." This central location, she argues, makes Arlington an ideal meeting point for buyers, sellers, and founders, positioning the city as a key player in the region's innovation ecosystem.
Cytron highlighted several factors driving Arlington's rise. The University of Texas at Arlington serves as a critical talent pipeline, while the Arlington Independent School District provides early engagement opportunities. The Founder's Arena often recruits entrepreneur-track high school students as event volunteers, Cytron noted, fostering the next generation of innovators. She also pointed to the city's Grand Prix weekend as a prime opportunity for convening. "We didn't do it this time, but this was the first Grand Prix, but I was thinking we need an Innovation Paddock Club," she said, hinting at future initiatives to connect innovators during the racing event.
The episode underscored how Arlington is attracting satellite companies and experience-driven brands. Cytron's open-door operating style—she answers all LinkedIn messages and takes cold calls—reflects her builder-first approach. "You never know who you're going to meet," she said, adding that Calendly is "the worst invention of all time."
Cytron, who was awarded Texas Innovator of the Year at this year's Texas Venture Gala & Forum, emphasized the importance of breaking down regional silos. A panel earlier that day at America's House focused on this very topic, reinforcing the need for collaboration across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
