Author Jen Cole has announced the release of the first three books in her new children's book series, 'Rooster and Squid.' After a career spanning over 25 years in small animal medicine, Cole has transitioned into writing, combining her veterinary expertise with a passion for storytelling. The series is centered around two endearing characters: Rooster, a Golden Retriever who enjoys belly rubs and bacon, and Squid, a grey cat who loves big naps and butt scratches.
Cole, who grew up in Kingwood, Texas, has always been deeply connected to animals and sports. She attended Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and has practiced small animal medicine alongside her husband in Spring, Texas. The couple resides in The Woodlands, Texas, with their three children. Following her retirement, Cole decided to channel her creative energies into writing, crafting stories that would not only entertain but also educate young readers about caring for their pets.
The 'Rooster and Squid' series has been designed to appeal to both children and parents who enjoy wholesome adventures and mysteries. According to Cole, the books aim to teach valuable lessons about animal care. The protagonist duo, Rooster and Squid, were once strays but found a loving home with the town veterinarian, mirroring the real-life experiences of many rescue pets.
Cole believes that storytelling is a powerful tool to shape future generations. She hopes that children will see themselves in the characters and learn important lessons about empathy and responsibility towards animals. The series has already received positive feedback from families across the United States, indicating its potential to become a favorite among young readers and animal lovers alike.
Jen Cole's new book series, 'Rooster and Squid,' is published by Lucid Books, an independent hybrid publisher based in the Houston area. Lucid Books combines the strengths of traditional publishing with the involvement of self-publishing, aiming to inspire and enrich the lives of readers.
