The award-winning documentary 'Where the Horses Heal the Soul,' directed by Twila LaBar, is set to screen in Austin on June 16, 2025, to benefit ROCK (Ride On Center for Kids), a non-profit organization. The film delves into the lives of four individuals who find new strength, confidence, and purpose through equine assisted services. Among them are two military veterans dealing with PTSD and combat injuries, a teenager with Down syndrome gaining confidence, and a young woman with cerebral palsy who advocates for herself and others.
LaBar emphasizes the film's message of overcoming labels and diagnoses through the healing power of horses. The documentary has garnered international acclaim, receiving awards at several film festivals, including the Best Inspirational Feature at the Tennessee International Indie Film Festival and the Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary Feature at the New York International Film Festival.
The screening event, hosted by the Rotary Club of Austin University Area, aims to raise awareness and funds for ROCK's programs. These programs offer therapeutic riding and equine assisted activities to children and adults with physical, emotional, and cognitive challenges, demonstrating the profound impact of human-animal bonds on healing and personal growth.
