Music platform Bandcamp will donate all of its proceeds on February 7th to MusiCares, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting musicians in crisis. The initiative aims to provide financial relief for music industry professionals affected by the recent Southern California wildfires.
During a 24-hour period, every dollar generated through Bandcamp's platform will be directed to MusiCares, which offers emergency assistance including mental health counseling, medical screenings, and housing support for music community members.
The fundraising effort involves partnerships with several music industry organizations, including A2IM, Harman, Lagunitas, Roland, Shure, Victrola, and WIN. These collaborations amplify the potential impact of the donation and demonstrate industry-wide solidarity.
Dan Melnick, Bandcamp's General Manager, emphasized the significance of supporting Los Angeles's music ecosystem, noting that the wildfires have impacted musicians, producers, and recording studios across the region.
This initiative builds on Bandcamp's history of supporting independent musicians, including their Bandcamp Fridays program, which has generated over $131 million for artists and labels. By channeling proceeds directly to MusiCares, the platform provides a tangible mechanism for fans and artists to contribute to wildfire relief efforts.
Laura Segura, Executive Director of MusiCares, expressed gratitude for the community's commitment to making a meaningful difference during a challenging time.
