Benevolist and Tackle Hunger have announced the launch of the 'Full Bellies, Bright Summers' virtual food drive, a national initiative designed to combat the heightened risk of hunger among children during the summer months. The campaign, running from July 7th to August 31st, leverages a customizable, pre-populated drive template on Benevolist.org, enabling food pantries, businesses, and community groups across the U.S. to easily set up and share their own virtual food drives.
Alison Reese, Executive Director of Tackle Hunger, highlighted the urgency of the initiative, noting that families spend an additional $300 each month when school is out, placing a significant strain on food charities. The virtual food drive offers a streamlined solution to this challenge, allowing individuals and organizations to contribute to hunger relief efforts in their local communities without the logistical hurdles of traditional food drives.
Cari Newton, CEO at Benevolist, emphasized the community-centric approach of the campaign, stating, 'This is about neighbors helping neighbors.' By facilitating direct donations of essential items to food pantries, the initiative aims to ensure that families in need have access to critical resources during a time when demand surges and supplies dwindle.
The 'Full Bellies, Bright Summers' campaign represents a critical response to the summer hunger gap, providing a practical and impactful way for communities to rally support for those facing food insecurity. For more information on how to participate, visit www.benevolist.org.
