Better Youth Showcases Transformative Stories of Resilience and Identity in Upcoming Film Event

Better Youth, a social impact nonprofit, will host a unique film screening event on May 20, 2025, featuring two compelling short films that explore themes of resilience, identity, and personal transformation.

The evening will showcase 'Supershero: The Journey of Johna Rivers', a documentary following a Watts native and former foster youth who becomes a community advocate, and 'Born Again', a narrative short examining family dynamics, faith, and acceptance through the lens of a transgender woman's relationship with her religious sibling.

Founded by Syd Stewart, Better Youth focuses on empowering foster and system-impacted youth aged 17-24 by providing career training and mentorship in creative industries. The organization serves over 300 youth annually, offering no-cost apprenticeship programs in filmmaking, animation, and interactive gaming.

These films represent more than artistic expression; they are powerful tools for social change. By highlighting stories of marginalized individuals, Better Youth challenges societal norms and creates pathways for underrepresented voices to be heard and valued.

The upcoming screening represents a critical opportunity to understand the transformative potential of storytelling and the importance of supporting youth from challenging backgrounds in developing their creative potential.
