The Cancer Support Community San Francisco Bay Area (CSC) is set to break ground on a new cancer support center, representing a critical milestone in the organization's 35-year history of providing comprehensive psychosocial care for individuals and families impacted by cancer.
The new facility, located on six acres adjacent to the Lafayette Reservoir, will feature innovative spaces designed to support holistic healing. These include children and teen enrichment areas, support rooms with remote broadcast capabilities, a demonstration kitchen, counseling rooms, an expressive arts room, a movement studio, a library and cafe, wellness treatment rooms, and a healing garden.
The center's development is supported by a significant fundraising campaign, 'Rooted in Resilience', which has already secured over 75% of its funding. An anonymous donor has pledged a $5 million match, underscoring the community's commitment to expanding cancer support services.
CEO Lucinda Bazile emphasized that the center is more than a building, but a community space focused on addressing the psychological and social challenges of cancer. The organization aims to provide culturally responsive, free support programs in-person, hybrid, and virtual formats.
With this expansion, CSC signals its dedication to meeting growing community needs, offering a comprehensive approach to cancer support that extends beyond medical treatment. The new center represents a significant investment in compassionate care, community building, and patient empowerment.
