Comcast is launching a significant infrastructure project to bring high-speed fiber broadband to the rural community of Elmira, California, addressing the persistent digital divide in underserved areas. The expansion is supported by a grant from Solano County through the American Rescue Plan Act and Comcast's private investment.
State and local leaders emphasized the project's transformative potential. California State Senator Christopher Cabaldon noted that reliable high-speed internet is no longer a luxury but a necessity for economic participation, online learning, and telehealth services. Solano County Supervisor Mitch Mashburn highlighted how the project will help break down barriers limiting rural economic growth and educational advancement.
The network expansion represents more than infrastructure development. Comcast will provide multi-gigabit internet speeds with 99.9% reliability, offering residential and business services through Xfinity and Comcast Business platforms. The company will also implement its Internet Essentials program, which has connected over 2.2 million Californians to affordable internet services.
As part of its community commitment, Comcast also made a $5,000 contribution to the "Play 4 All" park in nearby Vacaville, which provides inclusive playground facilities for children with disabilities. The company's regional senior vice president, David Tashjian, described the internet as a bridge connecting "dreams to reality" for rural communities.
This strategic investment adds to Comcast's broader California infrastructure commitment, which includes over $4 billion in technology and infrastructure investments in the past three years. By extending high-speed connectivity to Elmira, Comcast is helping to ensure that rural residents have access to the digital tools necessary for modern economic and social participation.
