Comcast Extends Comprehensive Support for California's Park Fire Relief Efforts

Comcast has unveiled a robust support plan to aid those impacted by California's Park Fire, the fourth largest wildfire in the state's history. The initiative includes providing essential internet and TV services, opening 1,100 Xfinity WiFi hotspots for free use, and contributing $70,000 in cash and in-kind donations to various local organizations.

Starting Monday, August 5, Comcast will offer internet and TV services at the Local Assistance Center (LAC) in Chico. The center, located at 2156 Pillsbury Road, Suite 11, will be operational Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for two weeks. This facility will help residents access crucial government services and resources needed for recovery and rebuilding.

In addition to the services at the LAC, Comcast is opening its network of 1,100 public Xfinity WiFi hotspots across Butte and Tehama Counties. These hotspots are now available for free to everyone, including non-Xfinity customers, ensuring that residents and emergency personnel stay connected during this critical time. Further bolstering its support, Comcast will donate $70,000 in cash and in-kind contributions to six local organizations dedicated to fire relief efforts. These organizations include the Boys and Girls Clubs of the North Valley, the North Valley Animal Disaster Group, the North Valley Community Foundation, Northern Valley Catholic Social Service, Inc., True North Housing Alliance, and Watch Duty. Each of these groups plays a vital role in various aspects of wildfire recovery, from assisting families and animals to providing emergency shelter and raising funds for ongoing relief efforts.

Comcast has also provided guidelines on how to connect to the Xfinity WiFi hotspots. Users can select the “xfinitywifi” network on their devices, and both Xfinity and non-Xfinity customers can sign in to access the internet. Non-Xfinity subscribers can renew their complimentary sessions every two hours.

To ensure residents are prepared and stay connected, Comcast recommends downloading its free mobile apps, such as Xfinity My Account, Xfinity Stream, and the Xfinity WiFi Hotspots app. These apps provide updates on outages, allow users to view live TV and weather updates, and access millions of hotspots nationwide. By offering these comprehensive services and donations, Comcast aims to provide meaningful relief and support to the communities affected by the Park Fire, highlighting the importance of connectivity and community support in disaster recovery efforts.
