Joy of Wine Company Inc., doing business as Compliance Vine, has launched Compliance Vine Live, a real-time compliance engine that automatically verifies every direct-to-consumer (DTC) wine order against destination state shipping laws. The tool, now available as an approved app on Shopify and Commerce7, integrates seamlessly into existing e-commerce platforms, checking orders in milliseconds without requiring new workflows or manual data exports.
When a customer places an order, Compliance Vine Live instantly confirms that the winery is licensed to ship to the destination state, that the order stays within state volume limits, that age verification requirements are met, that the address is not in a restricted locality, and that correct taxes are applied. Orders that comply pass through; those that do not are flagged or stopped before shipment. Every decision is recorded in a tamper-evident, audit-ready log.
“Wine businesses should spend their time making and selling great wine — not chasing spreadsheets and worrying about audits,” said Christopher Anderson, Founder of Joy of Wine Company. “Most wineries don’t find out about a compliance problem until weeks later, when the report is due or the fine arrives. Compliance Vine Live moves that moment to the point of sale, where a problem costs nothing to fix.”
Manual compliance can cost a winery upwards of $170,000 a year and consume more than 40 hours of staff time monthly. The stakes of non-compliance are high: federal penalties can exceed $26,000 per violation per day, and state regulators have levied fines reaching millions. Compliance Vine catches mistakes before they happen.
Compliance Vine Live works alongside the Compliance Vine platform, which serves as a system of record for managing state shipping reports, tax filing preparation, license tracking, and audit-ready reporting. Together, the two products cover the full compliance lifecycle across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. The platform is designed for boutique wineries and enterprise operations, with collaborative access for internal teams and outside compliance consultants.
Wineries on Shopify and Commerce7 can install Compliance Vine Live directly from their platform’s app marketplace; businesses on other systems can integrate via API. Both products are available on a monthly subscription. Future enhancements will include expanded analytics, industry benchmarking, AI-powered compliance assistance, and additional platform integrations.
