Optagon Group, a Coventry-based roofing materials specialist, has completed a significant corporate transformation by transferring majority ownership to its employees through an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). Founded in 2010, the company owns multiple brands including Skyseal, Rubber4roofs, and SkyGuard.
Founders Tom and Tina Cullingford made a strategic decision to reject a substantial external acquisition offer, instead choosing to provide their workforce with direct ownership and control of the company's future. This move empowers the 50-person team, giving them a meaningful stake in the organization's ongoing success.
The transition represents a progressive approach to corporate structure, allowing employees to share in the company's strategic direction and potential financial growth. Cullingford will continue as managing director, with a senior leadership team including newly appointed legal directors Antony Murray and Zoe George.
Corporate finance adviser BCMS supported the shareholders throughout the transaction, providing expertise in valuation and communication. The employee-owned transition signals a growing trend of businesses prioritizing workforce engagement and collaborative management models.
Skyseal, specializing in modern roofing solutions and skylight technologies, remains committed to delivering high-quality products and services. The company's innovative 3D configurator allows customers to customize roof solutions precisely to their needs, reinforcing their technological adaptability during this organizational shift.
