Cozaint Corporation has been awarded U.S. Patent No. 12,755,902, titled "Video Surveillance Playback System with Multi-Tiered Storage," covering core elements of its MARCIA™ Intelligent Video Lifecycle Management platform. The patent, announced on October 7, 2026, validates an architecture that allows surveillance operators to retrieve archived video from long-term Linear Tape-Open (LTO) storage through their existing Video Management Software (VMS) timeline, without initiating a separate archive-retrieval process.
The development addresses a persistent tradeoff in enterprise surveillance: affordable long-term video retention has often come at the cost of practical accessibility. Conventional archive solutions can force operators to leave their familiar VMS environment, manually locate archived media, or run separate restoration jobs before reviewing historical footage. MARCIA is designed to remove that operational divide while preserving the economics of LTO retention.
The patented system manages video across multiple storage tiers, combining rapidly accessible storage with economical long-term LTO media. Middleware between the VMS and storage infrastructure maintains the relationship between recorded video, time, and physical storage location. When an operator requests historical video through the normal VMS timeline, MARCIA determines where the requested camera and time-period recordings reside. If the video has migrated to LTO, MARCIA recalls the required recordings and restores them into the storage structure expected by the VMS, which then performs normal playback.
"This patent represents years of engineering focused on solving one of the surveillance industry's longest-standing challenges," said Nauzad Sadry, Chief Technology Officer of Cozaint Corporation. "Organizations should never have to choose between retaining valuable visual evidence and maintaining operational simplicity. MARCIA bridges that gap by making long-term video preservation a seamless extension of the existing VMS experience at the most affordable storage costs."
The architecture is not tied to any single VMS platform. MARCIA currently supports Milestone XProtect, Hanwha WAVE, Digital Watchdog Spectrum IPVMS, Network Optix Nx Witness, PIKO VMS, and BOBBYvms, with additional platforms continually being added. This VMS-independent approach means organizations can adopt the technology without replacing their existing operator workflows.
Takuma Yano, General Manager of FUJIFILM North America Corp.'s Data Storage Solutions division, said, "Innovation such as Cozaint's patented architecture demonstrates how enterprise software can unlock new value from proven storage technologies by making long-term archived content more accessible within day-to-day operational environments."
The patent matters as enterprise surveillance deployments grow into petabyte-scale environments. Organizations face mounting pressure to extend retention periods for regulatory, legal, investigative, and business intelligence requirements while controlling storage costs. Cozaint's patented architecture leverages the economics, durability, and energy efficiency of LTO technology without forcing operators to abandon familiar VMS workflows. As AI applications increasingly depend on historical visual data, preserving original footage in an accessible yet affordable manner becomes strategically important. Cozaint believes Intelligent Video Lifecycle Management will become an essential architectural layer within enterprise surveillance infrastructure.
