Drug-Free World Brings Drug Prevention Education to Thousands at Los Angeles Heritage Festival

Drug-Free World, a foundation dedicated to drug prevention education, brought its campaign to the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Heritage Festival on June 27–28, reaching more than 1,000 attendees and FIFA World Cup fans with materials promoting informed, drug-free choices. The two-day event, held at the historic 44-acre living history museum and monument in Downtown Los Angeles, coincided with a FIFA World Cup watch party and Fan Zone at nearby Union Station, allowing volunteers to engage a diverse audience of Angelenos, families, soccer fans, and visitors.

Thousands attended the festival over the weekend, with many touring the Drug-Free World Mobile Exhibit. Through outreach at the festival and the nearby FIFA Fan Zone, volunteers distributed Truth About Drugs educational booklets and sparked meaningful conversations with individuals who had personal or professional experience with the effects of drug abuse. One retired social worker, who had spent over 30 years working with pregnant teenagers struggling with drug addiction, expressed strong support and took 200 booklets to place in her church. A physician's assistant also visited the exhibit, learned about the curriculum, and later ordered an Educator's Kit from the organization's website.

The exhibit provided a space for Spanish-speaking community members to share personal stories about loved ones affected by or lost to drugs. Volunteers also built relationships with local businesses along Olvera Street, placing educational displays on counters and food trucks to extend the campaign's reach. By the weekend's end, Drug-Free World had reached approximately 1,000 people, provided tours of the Mobile Exhibit, and collected pledges from individuals committing to a drug-free life. In total, 13,700 Truth About Drugs booklets were distributed, and the campaign resulted in a new community partnership that will help expand access to drug-prevention education at future events.

This outreach underscores the importance of community-based drug education, especially during large public gatherings where diverse populations can be engaged. By meeting people where they are—whether at cultural festivals or sports events—Drug-Free World is able to deliver crucial information that empowers individuals to make healthy choices. The positive responses from professionals and community members highlight the demand for such resources and the potential for long-term impact through partnerships with local organizations and businesses.
