Vancouver-based ESGold Corp. is pioneering an innovative approach to mine site rehabilitation by implementing a clean tailings recovery operation at its Montauban property in Quebec. The company has acquired Humphrey spiral concentrators to establish a gravity separation circuit that will extract valuable metals from historical mine tailings without relying on environmentally harmful cyanide extraction methods.
The 13,116-hectare site, previously abandoned by another producer, represents a significant opportunity for ESGold to generate immediate revenue while simultaneously cleaning up the mining area. By utilizing gravity separation technology, the company expects to generate approximately $35 million annually from tailings reprocessing.
This strategy offers multiple benefits, including environmental remediation, resource recovery, and financial generation. The gravity separation technique allows for metal extraction with minimal ecological disruption, representing a more sustainable approach to mining site management.
ESGold's approach demonstrates an emerging trend in the mining industry toward responsible resource development that balances economic objectives with environmental stewardship. The planned operation, set to begin later this year, could serve as a model for other mining companies seeking to rehabilitate historical sites while creating economic value.
