South Fork Instruments has announced that its Exner turbidity and solids concentration sensors have received certifications from both 3A Sanitary Standards and the European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group (EHEDG). These certifications confirm the sensors' adherence to the highest hygienic design standards, crucial for food and beverage processing applications where product safety and accurate measurement data are paramount.
The dual certifications respond to the increasing need for process monitoring instruments that ensure product safety in sanitary environments. Industries such as breweries, dairy processing, and pharmaceutical sterile manufacturing benefit from sensors capable of enduring aggressive Clean-in-Place (CIP) cycles without posing contamination risks. John Daly, Technical Director at South Fork Instruments, highlighted the significance of these certifications, stating they allow customers to implement real-time process monitoring while maintaining sanitary requirements.
Key features of the certified Exner sensors include electropolished 316L stainless steel construction with surface finishes below 0.8 μm Ra to prevent bacterial adhesion, complete drainability to eliminate contamination points, and resistance to standard cleaning and sanitizing compounds. These sensors are designed for a temperature range of 0-90°C, suitable for both production and CIP operations.
With applications ranging from brewing wort clarification to dairy processing quality control, the Exner sensors enable manufacturers to conduct continuous turbidity monitoring without compromising HACCP protocols. The availability of these certified sensors through South Fork Instruments marks a significant advancement in process monitoring technology for the food and beverage industry.
