FingerMotion (NASDAQ: FNGR) announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Hanna Campus #1 Inc., has entered into a binding letter of intent to acquire approximately 20.2 acres of industrial land in Hanna, Alberta. The site is earmarked for a planned 9.9 MW artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) facility, marking the second campus under FingerMotion’s broader Alberta program that targets approximately 99 MW across the Brooks, Coronation, Fox Creek, and Vulcan Zones. The development is being pursued in partnership with BlueFlare Group Holdings Inc., which serves as development partner for the entire 99 MW initiative.
The Hanna site will have access to 3 MW of grid power through an agreement with the Town of Hanna, along with a natural gas interconnection via ATCO Energy to support behind-the-meter generation. FingerMotion’s strategy involves contracting capacity to AI and HPC clients under long-term agreements before committing construction capital, a measured approach that could reduce financial risk. The company expects permitting, power, and design for each campus to take approximately 120 to 180 days.
For investors, this move signals FingerMotion’s intent to diversify beyond its core mobile payment and recharge platform business in China. While the company continues to grow its user base in that market, the Alberta AI and HPC program represents a significant foray into the rapidly expanding AI infrastructure sector. As demand for AI and HPC capacity surges globally, FingerMotion’s ability to secure power and land positions it to potentially capture long-term contracts with high-value clients. The success of this program could provide a new revenue stream and enhance the company’s valuation, though execution risks remain, including regulatory approvals and construction timelines.
“The addition of the Hanna campus is an important step in building out our 99 MW Alberta program,” said a company representative. “We are focused on securing long-term contracts with AI and HPC clients before deploying capital, which we believe is a prudent approach in this dynamic market.” The announcement comes as AI and HPC infrastructure investments accelerate worldwide, driven by the proliferation of generative AI and data-intensive applications. Alberta has emerged as a favorable location due to its available energy resources and supportive regulatory environment.
