Frank Giustra Memoir Explores the Paradox of Wealth and the Quest for Purpose

Canadian entrepreneur Frank Giustra, who built some of the world's largest gold companies and founded Lionsgate, the largest independent movie studio in Hollywood, is set to release a memoir that delves into the complex relationship between wealth and happiness. The book, titled The Money Dilemma: My Unlikely Path to Wealth, Philanthropy, and Peace, will be published on November 3, 2026, by Page Two.

Giustra, once a Type-A Merrill Lynch broker and a powerhouse at Yorkton Securities, achieved his lifelong dream of becoming rich by age 39. But he discovered that financial success alone did not bring contentment. The memoir traces his evolution from a high-stakes financier to a global philanthropic leader, highlighting a shift from accumulation to compassion, and from fame to family.

“Money in itself is worthless. It's what you do with it,” writes Pierre Lassonde, mining entrepreneur and philanthropist, in a foreword to the book. “From having none at all, to having it all, to sharing it all, Frank's life goes through all the human raw emotions before finding purpose and meaning.”

Giustra has donated over $250 million to humanitarian initiatives, with a focus on alleviating poverty through entrepreneurial solutions. In 2007, he launched Acceso, a social business builder that combats global poverty through agribusiness ventures in Colombia, El Salvador, Haiti, and Guatemala. Through Acceso and the Giustra Foundation, he has advanced sustainable solutions to food insecurity, youth education, and refugee resettlement.

The memoir implicitly challenges other ultra-wealthy individuals to reconsider the meaning and potential of their wealth. Chef José Andrés, founder of World Central Kitchen, praised Giustra’s approach: “The world needs more people like Frank Giustra. He knows that real change requires more than generosity alone; it requires listening, showing up, and standing beside communities in moments that matter most.”

Giustra, a Member of the Order of Canada and an inductee of the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame, has also served as a longtime Trustee and former Co-Chair of the International Crisis Group, and received the inaugural Dalai Lama Humanitarian Award. Through his work, he continues to use his resources and influence to create a more equitable world for future generations.
