Three local Freeport businesses collaborated to host the city's first annual Barstool Golf fundraiser, generating $2,360 for Friends Forever Humane Society while engaging the community in a unique charitable event. The miniature golf tournament, which transformed nine local venues into custom golf holes, attracted nearly 250 participants – more than double the anticipated attendance.
Organized by Communication and Design Inc., The Freeport Club, and MAS Roofing, Siding and Decking Inc., the event encouraged teams of four to navigate through local establishments including Tony's, Big O's, The Royal Pub, and others. Participants paid a $40 team registration fee, with all proceeds directly benefiting the local animal shelter.
Ryan Lester from Communication and Design Inc. noted the event's unexpected success, emphasizing how the creative fundraiser brought community members together for a meaningful cause. Carol from Friends Forever Humane Society expressed gratitude, highlighting the significant impact the funds will have on caring for animals in need.
The fundraiser concluded with an awards ceremony and after-party at The Freeport Club, setting the stage for what organizers hope will become an annual tradition. With plans to expand participation and fundraising goals in future years, the Barstool Golf event demonstrates the power of local businesses working collaboratively to support community initiatives.
