Amidst the backdrop of global conflicts threatening peace and security, citizens from all continents joined hands for HWPL's 11th Annual Commemoration of the Declaration of World Peace and Peace Walk. Organized by Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), a United Nations affiliated non-governmental organization, the events hosted under the theme 'Communication for Global Citizenship of Reconciliation and Tolerance' aimed to foster and spread a culture of peace.
The flagship event kicked off on May 25th at the Peace Gate of Seoul Olympic Park, sponsored by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs of Korea. In approximately 50 countries, HWPL organized peace walks and engaged attendees in various peacebuilding activities, including video screenings, photo exhibitions, sports activities, bazaars, and volunteer opportunities. Tree planting ceremonies and 'free hug' initiatives highlighted the importance of unity and environmental well-being.
These events marked the commemoration of the 2013 Declaration of World Peace at the Peace Gate in Seoul Olympic Park, where 30,000 youth came together to advocate for peace. The declaration emphasized the crucial role of individuals from all backgrounds in working towards global peace.
During the previous year's 10th annual commemoration event, Chairman Lee Man-hee emphasized the ongoing commitment to peace, stating, 'Since we pledged to work together for world peace 10 years ago, we have been calling for peace worldwide. We have been promoting peace education at home and in schools, urging everyone to become ambassadors of peace.'
Chairman Lee reiterated the importance of unity in the pursuit of peace, stating, 'Everyone should unite under the banner of peace and collaborate to build a better world, leaving a legacy for future generations. This is the task of our time.'
In response to the Israel-Iran conflict, HWPL issued a statement condemning the violence and calling for immediate dialogue to achieve peace. The organization, along with global partners, urged both nations to cease aggressive actions and engage in peaceful negotiations.
