Greenland Mines Announces 31% Increase in Palladium Resource at Skaergaard Project

Greenland Mines Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRML) has announced a significant resource upgrade at its Skaergaard project in southeast Greenland, reporting a 31% increase in indicated palladium equivalent resource. The project is now one of the largest undeveloped palladium, gold, and platinum deposits in the western world, according to a company press release.

The announcement comes at a time when the global palladium supply chain faces increasing scrutiny. Palladium is a critical component in catalytic converters for gasoline-powered vehicles, accounting for roughly 80% to 85% of total global demand. The metal's supply is heavily concentrated, with Russia being a dominant supplier, posing geopolitical risks for Western nations.

“The combination of a structurally concentrated supply base, rising geopolitical risk from the dominant Russian supplier, and persistent demand from the automotive sector creates a clear rationale for Western nations to secure alternative sources of palladium,” the company stated.

The 2026 field season is already underway at Skaergaard, with activities including drilling, bulk sampling for metallurgical test work, geotechnical measurements, engineering studies, and environmental baseline assessments. These efforts are aimed at advancing the project toward development.

“The latest news from Greenland Mines confirms that its Skaergaard project just became more valuable,” the release noted, emphasizing the strategic importance of diversifying palladium supply chains.

The resource upgrade is particularly relevant as automotive manufacturers and governments seek to reduce dependence on Russian palladium. The Skaergaard project could provide a stable, Western-friendly source of the metal, potentially mitigating supply disruptions.

This development underscores the growing focus on securing critical mineral supplies for the green energy transition and industrial resilience. As geopolitical tensions persist, projects like Skaergaard may become increasingly vital for global supply chains.
