Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram II will speak at the 2026 Carlsbad Mayor's Energy Summit on Oct. 22 at the Walter Gerrells Performing Arts Center in Carlsbad, N.M. The event, themed "From the Basin to the Nation: Local Energy, National Impact," is hosted by Carlsbad Mayor Richard Lopez and other community leaders.

"It all starts here," said Mayor Lopez. "When it comes to the energy industry, what happens in the Permian Basin resonates across the entire nation." The summit's theme underscores the region's critical role in U.S. energy production, with the Permian Basin being one of the most productive oil and gas regions in the country.

Ingram, currently an on-air personality for Fox Sports, will address the audience as the summit's lunch presenter. He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide, becoming the first Alabama player to win the Heisman Trophy in 2009. In the NFL, Ingram was a standout for the New Orleans Saints and also played for the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans. His participation brings a high-profile name to an event focused on energy policy and community impact.

The Carlsbad Mayor's Energy Summit, now in its 14th year, brings industry, community, and innovation together with the aim of understanding and supporting the area's energy impact. Additional speakers this year include Matt Warren, Oil and Gas Program Lead for the Bureau of Land Management, who will address issues related to federal energy policy. Former State Cabinet Secretary Tom Clifford will discuss the financial impact the energy industry has on the state. Experts will also address topics such as water challenges and the unique contributions the energy industry has made to the nation.

Chevron is the event's title sponsor this year, with ExxonMobil serving as presenting sponsor and Permian Resources as Diamond sponsor. A host of other sponsors makes the annual educational event possible, with the Carlsbad Community Foundation serving as fiscal sponsor. The backing from major energy companies highlights the summit's importance as a forum for discussing the industry's future.

Thanks to generous sponsorship, the Carlsbad Mayor's Energy Summit is a free event, though registration through the summit's web page is requested. Lunch will be served, and area nonprofits and businesses will have booths set up in the atrium. For more information, please visit www.carlsbadenergysummit.com.

The summit's focus on local energy and national impact is particularly relevant as energy policy continues to be a major topic of national debate. The Permian Basin's output affects energy prices, national security, and economic stability across the country. By bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and community members, the Carlsbad Mayor's Energy Summit aims to foster dialogue and understanding of these critical issues. The event also provides an opportunity for local businesses and nonprofits to showcase their contributions to the energy sector and the community.

As the energy landscape evolves, gatherings like this serve as a platform for stakeholders to address challenges such as water usage, regulatory changes, and financial implications. The insights shared at the summit could influence future policies and practices, making it a significant event for anyone interested in the energy industry's trajectory. With the addition of a celebrity speaker like Ingram, the summit may also draw broader attention to the Permian Basin's role in powering the nation.
