HKTDC Food Expo Opens with Focus on Wellness and Global Flavours

The 36th HKTDC Food Expo, along with the Beauty & Wellness Expo and Home Delights Expo, opened today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, showcasing a wide array of products and activities centered on wellness and quality living. Running from 13 to 17 August, the concurrent fairs bring together more than 1,850 exhibitors from over 30 countries and regions, according to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), which organizes the events.

This year’s theme, “Live Well. Stay Well,” reflects a growing global emphasis on health and well-being. Dr Jonathan Choi, Council Member of the HKTDC, noted that wellness has become integral to everyday life, influencing food choices, home care, and physical and mental health. The fairs aim to offer products and experiences that support healthier, happier lifestyles.

The event features five themed days to guide visitors through different aspects of wellness. On “Happy Eat Happy Life” (13 August), attendees can explore health-focused foods such as cistanche health drinks, ready-to-eat bird’s nest, and organic dried blueberries. The Home Delights Expo showcases a high-speed food processor for texture-modified meals, while the Beauty & Wellness Expo offers complimentary health assessments, including cardiovascular and stress tests.

“The World in Blink” (14 August) highlights global delicacies like South African honey, Finnair’s inflight chocolates, and Peruvian cacao nibs. The Beauty & Wellness Expo features innovative products such as home-use beauty devices and clear aligners. Cultural activities, including embroidery workshops and ethnic dances, add an international flavor.

On “Coffee or Tea?” (15 August), a dedicated Coffee Zone returns with offerings from Yunnan, Myanmar, Hawaii, and a locally developed sparkling coffee with ginger. The Hong Kong International Tea Fair showcases rare teas, including purple bud raw Pu'er tea and ceremonial-grade matcha from Guizhou and Zhejiang. New pavilions feature Yixing Zisha teaware and a “Tea Lifestyle” zone with tea-infused beverages and bonsai displays.

“Stay Fresh, Stay Ahead” (16 August) focuses on premium produce, with the debut of the “Hong Kong Harvest” brand by the Fish Marketing Organization and Vegetable Marketing Organization. The Chinese Mainland pavilion presents regional delicacies such as Yunnan ham and Xinjiang wines. The Gourmet Zone, celebrating its 15th edition, hosts 15 star chefs for cooking demonstrations.

On the final day, “Let’s Chill” (17 August) introduces a “Stay Relax” zone in the Beauty & Wellness Expo, featuring a red-light therapy pod and pain-relief products. The Home Delights Expo presents the new “Go Sleep Exp” exhibit on sleep health. A new Dessert and Gelato Theme offers over 100 desserts and specialty ice creams.

For trade visitors, Food Expo PRO unveils a “Meat Zone” with premium meats from Brazil, Korea, and the US, and a “Food Science and Technology Zone” focusing on alternative foods. For the first time, pet food products are featured, using patented packaging to preserve nutrition without cold-chain logistics. The halal food section expands to over 130 exhibitors.

The International Conference of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine & Health Products (ICMCM) runs concurrently, expanded to three days with over 30 speakers discussing regulatory policies and global innovation. The conference supports Hong Kong’s role as a bridge between Chinese medicine and international markets.

To mark HKTDC’s 60th anniversary, visitors can enjoy promotions, free admission before noon for the first 600 visitors daily with leaflets, and daily lucky draws worth over HK$1 million. E-tickets are available through various platforms, with admission prices starting at HK$30.
