Hong Kong Hosts Lions International Convention for Third Time, Reinforcing Status as Global MICE Hub

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) is proud to support the 108th Lions International Convention 2026, which opened on July 3 at AsiaWorld-Expo. This marks the third time Hong Kong has hosted the flagship event of Lions Clubs International, one of the world's largest service organizations with over 1.4 million members across more than 200 countries and regions. The convention, running through July 7, has drawn approximately 17,000 delegates from around the globe, underscoring Hong Kong's enduring appeal as the "World's Meeting Place" and "Events Capital of Asia."

Hong Kong previously hosted the convention in 1992 and 2005, making it one of the few cities among over 200 Lions member countries and regions to secure hosting rights three times. This achievement cements Hong Kong's reputation as a top-tier destination for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism. HKTB Chairman Dr. Peter Lam emphasized that the convention's return affirms Hong Kong's integrated strengths, including world-class MICE infrastructure, global aviation connectivity, diverse tourism offerings, and quality hospitality services. "These are the key factors in attracting international MICE events and encouraging business travelers to return time and again," he said.

The convention provides a platform for Lions to explore the future of international service while experiencing Hong Kong's unique blend of Eastern and Western cultures. Honorary Chairman and Past International President Dr. Tam Wing-kun noted that Hong Kong's well-developed professional services and comprehensive MICE infrastructure make it an ideal host. He added that delegates will serve as ambassadors, sharing Hong Kong's stories with the world after experiencing its world-class cuisine and cultural richness.

In a bid to promote traditional Chinese culture and wellness, the convention will feature an attempt to set a world record for the largest Tai Chi session, with thousands of international Lions practicing simultaneously. The activity aims to encourage exercise and deepen understanding of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, creating a meaningful conclusion to the event.

To enhance delegates' experience, the HKTB has partnered with local travel trade and major attractions to offer exclusive itineraries, transport deals, attraction tickets, shopping discounts, gift redemptions, and theme park offers. These initiatives are designed to encourage delegates to extend their stay and explore Hong Kong's diverse culture, cuisine, and unique attractions. The HKTB continues to bring influential large-scale international MICE events to Hong Kong, strengthening its competitiveness as a world-class destination for both business and leisure tourism.
