Hong Kong-Led Task Force Takes Mainland Enterprises to Canada in Push for Global Expansion

Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), a member of the Task Force on Supporting Mainland Enterprises in Going Global, will lead a seven-day delegation to Canada starting September 20 to help Mainland enterprises expand their global business. The visit, announced on September 18, will cover Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton and focuses on companies in sustainability and life and health sciences.

Ms Loretta Lee, Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at InvestHK, will head the delegation. The mission, one of several outbound trips supervised by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, aims to help Mainland enterprises understand local ecosystems and align their global expansion needs. It also seeks to attract Canadian businesses in these strategic sectors to invest in Hong Kong.

“Canada is globally recognised for its exceptional research talent, clean technology leadership, and established life sciences ecosystem,” Ms Lee said. “As more Mainland green technology and life and health sciences enterprises pursue international growth through Hong Kong, they bring not only capital and access to one of the world’s largest markets, but also serve as ideal partners for Canadian companies seeking to explore Asia and beyond. We are keen to build fresh synergies with Canadian businesses to strengthen innovation, collaboration, and investment flows.”

During the visit, the delegation will meet with local institutions, chambers of commerce, and industry associations. They will hold targeted discussions with leading Canadian green tech and healthcare enterprises, visit universities and research parks, and participate in sector-specific roundtables and business networking sessions.

This mission matters because it highlights Hong Kong’s role as a two-way bridge between Mainland China and global markets. For Mainland companies, Canada offers advanced research and clean technology expertise that can accelerate international expansion. For Canadian firms, Hong Kong provides a gateway to Asia’s vast markets and a platform to collaborate with innovative Chinese enterprises.

The visit could strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties, particularly in sectors critical to the global transition to a low-carbon economy and to advances in healthcare. It may also create new opportunities for Canadian businesses to partner with Chinese firms, driving innovation and economic growth on both sides.

InvestHK’s efforts are part of a broader strategy to support Mainland enterprises in going global while reinforcing Hong Kong’s status as an international investment hub. The outcomes of this delegation could set the stage for deeper cooperation between Canada and Hong Kong, with potential benefits for companies and investors in both regions.
