IBU-tec advanced materials AG (“IBU-tec”, ISIN: DE000A0XYHT5) is making steady progress on its industrial-scale LFP battery materials production facility in Bitterfeld, Germany, as announced on July 15, 2026. The company has completed key logistics infrastructure milestones, including the erection of a steel structure for a new logistics hall with storage capacity for approximately 1,800 pallets. Interior fit-out is expected to be finalized within the next six months. Detailed engineering for the production facility has also commenced, alongside expansion of analytics capabilities and harmonization of IT systems.

The facility, which will have an annual capacity of 15,000 tonnes, is the first of its kind in Europe and represents a critical step in developing a European battery value chain. It utilizes a proprietary production process developed by IBU-tec that does not rely on Chinese technology and is tailored to the European market. The battery material produced boasts a superior CO2 footprint, consuming only about half the energy of conventional processes from China.

Following the topping-out ceremony for a new state-of-the-art spray tower in April 2026, IBU-tec is advancing its agreements with PowerCo SE regarding process development, capacity expansion, and production of LFP cathode material (see ad hoc release dated October 6, 2025). Trial operations for the spray tower are scheduled to begin in Q4 2026. The entire production volume has been contractually secured by PowerCo for a minimum period of ten years.

Jörg Leinenbach, CEO of IBU-tec, stated: “We are making good progress in building the large-scale production capacities for LFP battery materials in Bitterfeld. We are in close and constructive communication with PowerCo regarding the scheduled implementation of our timeline. In the coming months, we will achieve further milestones so that production can start as expected in 2028.”

The LFP production facility is set to commence operations in 2028, increasing IBU-tec’s existing capacities by approximately five times. This expansion is a key building block for the European battery industry, reducing dependence on foreign technology and supporting the region's transition to electromobility and stationary energy storage.
