ITASCA Australia Names David Wines as General Manager

ITASCA International has announced the appointment of David Wines as general manager of ITASCA Australia, effective January 1, 2027. Wines, currently a principal with the company, will succeed Glenn Sharrock, who is stepping down from the role to focus full-time on consulting as a senior principal with ITASCA Australia. The appointment follows a competitive recruitment process that included both internal and external candidates.

The leadership change is significant for clients in the mining, civil, energy, and environmental sectors who rely on ITASCA for geomechanics, hydrogeology, geochemistry, engineering geology, and numerical simulation expertise. Sharrock's move to a full-time consulting role gives clients more direct access to his engineering and consulting expertise, while Wines brings more than two decades of industry experience, recognized for his extensive work supporting open-pit mining operations. He combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership, having served on the board of directors of ITASCA International, Inc., most recently as board chair.

As general manager, Wines will build on the foundation Sharrock established and guide the company's growth, client service, and technical leadership across the region. The transition supports ITASCA Australia's continued growth by expanding senior consulting capacity, strengthening executive leadership, and maintaining continuity for existing client relationships. Clients who have worked with Wines on open-pit mining projects can expect continued access to ITASCA's deep technical expertise and specialized consulting resources.

Jonny Sjöberg, chief executive officer of ITASCA International, said, "David's leadership experience, technical expertise, and commitment to our clients make him exceptionally well suited to lead ITASCA Australia. This transition benefits both our team and our clients by pairing experienced executive leadership with expanded access to world-class consulting expertise."

Wines said, "I am honored to take on this role and continue building on the strong foundation Glenn and the team have created. ITASCA Australia has a talented team and a strong reputation for technical excellence. I look forward to supporting our clients, developing our people and helping guide the company's continued growth."

The announcement matters because it signals stability and strategic continuity for one of the engineering consulting firms serving Australia's resource sector. By elevating a board chair with open-pit mining expertise while freeing a veteran engineer to consult full-time, ITASCA is positioning itself to deepen client relationships and expand its technical leadership across a region where mining operations face increasingly complex geotechnical challenges. For clients and competitors alike, the transition underscores ITASCA's emphasis on pairing executive leadership with specialized consulting capacity as it pursues growth in Australia.
