On December 12, JASDFW hosted its inaugural Pickleball Social & Bonenkai (year-end celebration) at RYSE Energy StarCenter Multisport. The event combined recreational pickleball with Japanese izakaya-style dishes from Yama Izakaya & Sushi, alongside sake, beer, and wine. Designed to require no prior experience, the gathering emphasized fun, food, and friendship, aligning with JASDFW's mission to build connections through shared experiences.
JASDFW also supported international athletic exchange by welcoming elite runners Shiho Endo and Satoshi Tanaka from Sendai, Japan, who were invited by the BMW Dallas Marathon. The runners, accompanied by Sendai city officials, participated in the Bonenkai and were honored at a post-race reunion luncheon. This luncheon connected them with local runners who have previously participated in the Sendai Half-Marathon through programs sponsored by JASDFW, Japan Airlines, and partners. Despite freezing temperatures, Shiho Endo placed 4th overall among female marathon runners and 2nd in her age division.
