JCB International Co., Ltd., the international operations subsidiary of Japan's only international payment brand, and Hanoi Metro One Member Limited Liability Company (Hanoi Metro) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on the introduction of JCB transit across Hanoi's urban railway network. The service is scheduled to launch in early 2027, allowing JCB Cardmembers to tap their contactless cards or compatible devices directly at metro fare gates.
The agreement marks a significant step in JCB's broader strategy to expand contactless payment solutions for public transportation and to support the development of cashless payment in Vietnam. For consumers, the change means a faster and more seamless travel experience, eliminating the need to purchase a separate transit ticket or carry cash for metro journeys. The service is expected to be particularly beneficial for international visitors, including travelers from Japan, Korea, Taiwan and other markets, who will be able to use a familiar payment method while traveling on Hanoi's metro network.
Takumi Takahashi, Executive Vice President of JCB International Co., Ltd., said: "JCB International is delighted to collaborate with Hanoi Metro to introduce JCB transit in Hanoi. We hope this service will provide greater convenience to JCB Cardmembers and contribute to the development of a modern and cashless public transportation ecosystem in Vietnam."
The announcement, reported via NEWMEDIAWIRE, underscores the growing role of payment brands in urban mobility. For JCB, the deal extends its acceptance network into everyday transit in a fast-growing Southeast Asian market, where cashless adoption is rising. The company reports a global acceptance network of about 72 million merchants and more than 181 million cardmembers, mainly in Asian countries and territories. JCB International and Hanoi Metro will continue to work closely together to complete the necessary preparations, with JCB transit targeted for launch in early 2027. The original release can be viewed on www.newmediawire.com.
