Jordan Tye has been announced as the 2023 winner of the prestigious Farmer & Morris Law, PLLC Volunteer Service Scholarship. This scholarship will provide Tye with the financial support she needs to continue her studies at Arizona State University's College of Law. However, her journey to this point has been far from easy.
From a young age, Tye faced significant challenges. At the age of six, she had to grow up quickly as her mother battled drug addiction. She spent five years living with her grandparents, a period during which she developed a deep love for learning. Tye immersed herself in reading, math, and writing short stories, laying the foundation for her future academic pursuits.
In her freshman year of high school, Tye began volunteering as a Teen Court volunteer at the El Paso County Courthouse. This experience ignited her passion for law. She witnessed firsthand how lawyers could make a positive impact on individuals and communities, drawing inspiration from legal luminaries like Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It was also during this time that Tye learned the importance of not judging individuals solely based on their criminal records. She recalls an instance where she initially misjudged a young teenager based on a police record, only to discover that the individual was innocent and in need of assistance.
Tye went on to graduate from the University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in Marketing and a minor in Political Science. She is currently pursuing her law degree at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, with an expected graduation date in 2025.
With the support of the Farmer & Morris Law, PLLC scholarship, Tye is now one step closer to achieving her goal of becoming a lawyer. She aspires to help individuals entangled in the criminal justice system to rebuild their lives, continuing the work that has inspired her since her days as a Teen Court volunteer.
