Kevin Coughlin, a seasoned politician and business leader, has been selected as the new Ohio State Chair for U.S. Term Limits, taking over the role from newly elected U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno. Coughlin's appointment signals a continued push for congressional term limits in Ohio and nationwide.
With a political career spanning from 1996 to 2011, including service in both the Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate, Coughlin has firsthand experience with legislative processes. After being term-limited in 2011, he transitioned to the private sector, founding the marketing firm Lexington Companies.
Coughlin emphasized the critical need for term limits, noting that serving in Congress has become a lucrative career rather than a public service. He cited widespread public support, stating that polls show Ohioans across political spectrums unite in supporting congressional term limits.
Philip Blumel, President of U.S. Term Limits, expressed confidence in Coughlin's leadership, believing his appointment will help advance their resolution in Ohio. Moreno similarly endorsed Coughlin, praising his commitment to the cause.
Beyond his political experience, Coughlin has remained actively involved in community leadership, serving on multiple boards and councils. In 2024, he was the Republican nominee for Ohio's 13th Congressional District, narrowly losing to an incumbent in a historically Democratic district.
Coughlin's appointment represents a strategic move to continue building momentum for term limits, highlighting growing national frustration with career politicians and the desire for fresh legislative perspectives.
