Finfluential, a Substack publication from Lowe Group covering financial influencers, has released the results of its first-ever "Centers of Finfluence" survey, naming Michael Kitces, creator of the Nerd's Eye View blog, as the top vote-getter. Morningstar's Christine Benz and Wall Street Journal columnist Jason Zweig tied for second place. The survey polled more than 60 financial professionals, who were asked to identify the three voices they follow most closely in the industry.
The results underscore a key trend in financial media: while the space is increasingly crowded with new voices, a select few continue to dominate through sustained credibility and expertise. "Financial media is more crowded than ever with new voices constantly vying for attention, but a small number of people continue to set the terms of the conversation," said Finfluential Editor Greg Joslyn. "Our first Centers of Finfluence recognizes three individuals who've earned their influence over decades, not overnight."
Michael Kitces has spent 18 years building his Nerd's Eye View blog into one of the industry's most-read sources of technical education for financial advisors, now reaching a large monthly readership and anchoring a broader business centered on advisor training. Christine Benz, with over 30 years at Morningstar, currently serves as Director of Personal Finance and Retirement Planning. She has leveraged her platform to host The Long View podcast, featuring top names in retirement and investing, and writes a column considered essential reading for retirement industry professionals. Jason Zweig has spent years holding Wall Street accountable through his The Intelligent Investor column, blending hard-hitting investigative work with clear reminders about fees, complexity, and market realities—a body of work that has earned him some of financial journalism's top honors.
What unites these three figures is staying power: each has built a distinctive, consistent voice over a long career. Their influence reflects a demand for depth, reliability, and integrity in an era of fleeting online trends. Finfluential will publish its runners-up list next week, along with an analysis of which voices resonated most with different audience segments.
