The Living Legends Awards for Service to Humanity will host its milestone 20th annual event, celebrating individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to community service and social change. The awards ceremony, themed 'Champions of Change', will take place on February 22 at the Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church in Takoma Park, Maryland.
Founded in 2006 by Doreen Hines, the awards program has historically recognized over 50 remarkable individuals, including notable figures such as U.S. Congressman John Lewis and Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee. This year's honorees represent diverse fields of social impact, including faith community advocacy, restorative justice, and health equity.
The four 2025 Living Legends being recognized are Joseph McCoy, an advocate within the faith community; Jason Holt and Angela Holder, champions of restorative justice; and David R. Williams, a leader in social science and health equity. The event aims to inspire young people by showcasing individuals who have dedicated their lives to serving others.
The ceremony provides a unique platform for community members to network, hear transformative stories, and celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions to society. By highlighting these extraordinary achievements, the Living Legends Awards seeks to motivate others to engage in community service and create meaningful social change.
