For 13 years, lace has been a signature at Maneesha Ruia, reinterpreted across fabrics, silhouettes and occasions. It has become a distinctive expression of the brand's approach to craftsmanship and contemporary design, according to the company.
"I have always been drawn to the diversity within lace: its delicacy and boldness. Lace has a unique character, a vintage appeal that somehow feels remarkably modern. Over the years, we have continued to explore what lace can become when it is treated not simply as an embellishment, but as an integral part of the design," says Maneesha Ruia, Creative Director & Founder.
This philosophy distinguishes a scarf finished with lace from one designed around it. At Maneesha Ruia, lace can determine the character of a scarf, appearing as a panel, framing a motif, or emerging through appliquéd elements. The distinction influences how a scarf drapes, moves, and catches the light. Chantilly, filigree, Duchesse & Alençon lace each bring different qualities, and cutwork, motifs, scallop and appliqué introduce further possibilities.
Craftsmanship is central to the brand's lace scarves. A lace motif may meet hand embroidery, floral appliqué may be set against beadwork, and a hand-painted scarf may find its finishing counterpoint in an intricate lace detail. Each scarf can take up to 72 hours to complete, with 40 to 72 hours of artisan work depending on intricacy. The collection remains intentionally small, allowing each piece the time and attention it demands.
The modern lace scarf brings intricacy into everyday settings, adapting to how it's worn. A relaxed shoulder drape can soften tailoring, while a classic French drape brings a polished finish. A belted scarf transforms the piece into an unexpected layer. Paired with a white shirt, denim or a simple cashmere sweater, lace takes on an entirely different character. For celebratory occasions, the brand's occasion wear scarves add intricacy without overwhelming the look.
Over 13 years, the house has continued to return to lace, exploring different fabrics, colors, motifs, techniques and treatments. The instinct has remained constant: take a beautiful craft, look beyond its obvious application and make it relevant to the way women dress today. For the house, lace has become more than a material or an embellishment—it has become a language through which craftsmanship, femininity, and contemporary elegance continue to meet.
Founded in 2013 by designer and Creative Director Maneesha Ruia, Maneesha Ruia is a luxury women's lifestyle accessories house known for its handcrafted lace scarves and distinctive approach to contemporary accessories. Excess production materials are donated to Hamaara Sapna, while a share of proceeds from every purchase supports the Akanksha Foundation's work in providing education to underprivileged children.
This 13-year milestone underscores the brand's consistent dedication to lace as a design language, offering a case study in how a single material can evolve into a signature. For the fashion industry, it highlights the value of craftsmanship and responsible production, while for consumers, it signals enduring quality and versatility in accessories.
