MMRF Walk/Run Events Aim to Accelerate Cure for Multiple Myeloma

For over 25 years, the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation® (MMRF) has led the charge in cancer research focused exclusively on multiple myeloma, the second most common blood cancer. According to Michael Andreini, President and CEO of MMRF, the foundation remains committed to taking calculated risks and driving innovation through collaboration to benefit myeloma patients globally.

Since its inception, the MMRF has raised over $600 million for research, initiated nearly 100 clinical trials, and facilitated the approval of over 15 FDA-approved therapies, significantly increasing the life expectancy of myeloma patients. With the support of initiatives like the upcoming Walk/Run events, the foundation aims to further accelerate the development and delivery of new treatments, leverage data for optimal personalized approaches, and empower patients with resources and information to advocate for their care.

The Walk/Run events, scheduled from August to December, are set to take place in cities across the country. These events provide an essential platform for raising funds that enable MMRF to continue its groundbreaking work. Participants can register for free and begin fundraising, making a meaningful impact on the lives of thousands of patients and their loved ones.

The first two events will be held in California in August. The initial event will take place on Saturday, August 17th, at Griffith Park in Los Angeles. The event site will open at 8:00 AM, with the program beginning at 8:20 AM, followed by the Walk/Run from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM. The event will be chaired by Dr. Scott Goldsmith from City of Hope, and the Spirit of Hope Award will be presented to Archana More Sharma.

The second event is scheduled for Saturday, August 24th, at Marina Green in San Francisco. The event site will open at 9:00 AM, with the program starting at 9:20 AM and the Walk/Run from 10:00 AM to 11:15 AM. Closing remarks will be made at 11:15 AM. The event chairs include Dr. Jeffrey Wolf, Dr. Tom Martin, and Dr. Ajai Chari from UCSF, with the Spirit of Hope Award being presented to MaryLee Millard in memory of her husband, Dennis.

These events not only raise crucial funds but also foster a sense of community and hope among participants. The Spirit of Hope Award, given at each Walk/Run event, honors individuals or groups who inspire hope and demonstrate extraordinary commitment to the MMRF's mission. This award highlights the resilience, perseverance, and dedication of those affected by multiple myeloma.

To join the movement and support the MMRF's mission, individuals can find a city near them and register at www.themmrf.org.
