Morari Bapu Dedicates Ram Katha at United Nations to World Peace

Indian spiritual leader Morari Bapu has dedicated his nine-day-long Ram Katha event at the United Nations Headquarters to the cause of world peace. This unprecedented event took place from July 27 to August 4, 2024, and marks the first time a spiritual discourse of this kind was held at the UN.

Morari Bapu emphasized the importance of global unity by chanting the Vedic hymn “Om Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah Sarve Santu Niraamayaah | Sarve Bhadraanni Pashyantu Maa Kashcid-Duhkha-Bhaag-Bhavet |,” which translates to a prayer for universal happiness, health, and auspiciousness. The event was further underscored by the chanting of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” a Sanskrit phrase meaning “The World Is One Family.”

The discourse, revolving around the Ramayana, was attended by several dignitaries, including the UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed. She acknowledged the significance of the event in advancing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Morari Bapu expressed his commitment to supporting the UN's initiatives for world peace, progress, and happiness, urging world leaders to transcend petty interests and work towards ending ongoing conflicts in Israel and Ukraine.

Notable attendees included Commissioner of International Affairs Edward Mermelstein, Deputy Commissioner Dilip Chauhan, and the Consul General of India in New York, Binaya Srikanta Pradhan. The NYC Mayor’s Office also honored Bapu's Vyaspeetha, recognizing his contributions to global peace and spiritual discourse.

Morari Bapu's teachings align with the United Nations' SDGs, particularly in promoting peace, environmental sustainability, and social justice. He cited examples from the Ram Charita Manas to illustrate how these themes are advocated in the sacred text. On the concluding day, he related the principles of Ram Rajya, the rule of the ideal king Lord Ram, to the UN's principles, showcasing a model code of life that aligns with global aspirations.
