NAVEX, a global risk and compliance management solutions provider, has introduced an online interactive training program designed to help New York retailers comply with the recently enacted Retail Worker Safety Act. The legislation, effective June 2, 2025, requires retail businesses to develop workplace violence prevention policies and provide mandatory employee training.
The new law mandates that retailers with 10 or more employees implement comprehensive workplace violence prevention policies and provide interactive training upon hire and annually. Smaller businesses with fewer than 50 retail associates must conduct training upon hire and every two years.
NAVEX's training solution offers multiple key features to assist retailers in meeting these regulatory requirements. The program includes interactive content covering critical safety protocols such as de-escalation techniques, active shooter response, emergency procedures, and proper use of safety devices like silent response buttons.
Dr. Jen Farthing, general manager of training at NAVEX, emphasized the importance of accessible compliance solutions. The training can be customized to include business-specific procedures and provides specialized content for supervisors to manage potential security threats effectively.
The NAVEX One platform further simplifies compliance by offering comprehensive tracking capabilities, including automated compliance reminders and report generation. This approach not only helps retailers meet legal requirements but also promotes a culture of workplace safety and preparedness.
As workplace safety continues to be a critical concern for businesses, this training solution represents a proactive approach to protecting retail workers and enhancing organizational resilience against potential workplace violence risks.
