The American Heart Association has acknowledged 4,859 health care and emergency response organizations across the United States for their dedication to enhancing cardiovascular care. This recognition, part of the Get With The Guidelines® and other quality improvement initiatives, underscores the critical role of evidence-based science in treating heart disease, stroke, and related conditions. With cardiovascular disease claiming a life every 34 seconds in the U.S., the Association's efforts aim to standardize care, ensuring timely and research-backed treatments.
This year's awards, ranging from bronze to gold plus, celebrate achievements in various conditions, including stroke, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation. Notably, 158 hospitals received a new Commitment to Quality award for excellence across multiple clinical areas. Donald Lloyd-Jones, M.D., Sc.M., FAHA, emphasized the importance of fast, coordinated care based on scientific guidelines, a standard met by the recognized organizations.
The increase in recognized organizations, up by 1,700 from the previous year, reflects a growing commitment to quality cardiovascular care nationwide. With heart disease and stroke ranking as the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the U.S., respectively, the Association's initiatives are vital in improving patient outcomes and reducing hospital readmissions.
