Bike/Walk Central Florida's ninth annual BIKE 5 event demonstrates the region's growing cycling infrastructure while advocating for safer, more connected transportation networks that benefit community health and economic vitality.

Central Florida cyclists will participate in Bike/Walk Central Florida's ninth annual BIKE 5 event on October 25, 2025, showcasing the region's progress toward creating safer, more connected transportation options for bicyclists. The event serves as both a celebration of cycling and a demonstration of the broader need for transportation networks that prioritize safety and accessibility for all users.
BIKE 5 offers two distinct route options catering to different cycling preferences and abilities. The newly introduced 10-mile BIKE 5 Main Streets Ride highlights vibrant local neighborhoods and business districts, connecting South Orlando and Downtown Orlando through cyclist-forward infrastructure. This route takes participants through City District, Thornton Park, The Milk, Mills 50, Ivanhoe Village, and Audubon Park, demonstrating how low-cost infrastructure improvements have enhanced connectivity across the region.
The flagship 30-mile BIKE 5 Cities route traverses Orlando, Winter Park, Eatonville, Maitland, and Casselberry, available in both guided and self-guided formats. This longer route showcases trails, neighborhood streets, and city connections that exemplify what a bike-friendly region can achieve, featuring low-stress trails and scenic roadways that reveal Central Florida's hidden gems.
Anna Strasshofer, Events Manager at Bike/Walk Central Florida, emphasized that BIKE 5 differs from traditional cycling events. "It's not about racing or setting records. It's about experiencing our cities at a casual pace, connecting with fellow riders in small groups, and learning how we can all help make Central Florida's streets safer and more welcoming for people on bikes," Strasshofer explained. The event combines education, community engagement, and mobility advocacy to support bike-friendly routes and local living.
Emily Bush, Executive Director at Bike/Walk Central Florida, noted the progress made in creating connected streets and trails while acknowledging ongoing challenges. "The BIKE 5 route shows us how far we have come in creating connected, comfortable streets and trails that get us from City to City. We still have some work to do to truly create safe and accessible places for everyone, from 8 to 80, to ride, feel safe and enjoy," Bush stated. The event aims not only to demonstrate existing cycling opportunities but also to advocate for improved connections and broader access to active transportation options.
The event's success relies on continued collaboration with local governments, including partnerships with the City of Orlando, City of Winter Park, City of Maitland, Town of Eatonville, and City of Casselberry. These municipalities have invested in safer infrastructure and multimodal transportation, contributing to improved cycling accessibility that provides both health and economic benefits to the region.
