A recent survey of graduates from Shincheonji Church of Jesus' Zion Christian Mission Center reveals that 57% of participants identified as having no religious background prior to enrolling in the year-long Bible education program. The survey, conducted from October 17-25 among 1,285 students who completed the comprehensive Bible and Revelation coursework, demonstrates the program's appeal extends well beyond traditional religious circles.
Survey respondents provided insight into their transformative experiences, with one noting, "At first, I thought it was just a simple Bible lecture, but it became an opportunity to reflect on my life and relationships." Another participant emphasized the program's practical value, stating it "helped me establish standards for life beyond religion." These comments reflect the program's ability to resonate with individuals regardless of their prior religious orientation.
The survey results show overwhelming positive outcomes, with 99% of graduates reporting beneficial changes. The most significant impact was increased inner peace, stability, and emotional comfort, reported by 50.7% of respondents. Nearly half (46.7%) experienced spiritual growth and faith development, while 41.2% developed a positive value system through their studies.
One participant in their 20s highlighted the intellectual depth of the program, explaining, "I had previously tried to learn about God and the Bible through various church teachings in the Christian world, but I didn't see much intellectual growth. However, through the Mission Center, I came to truly understand the Bible." This sentiment underscores the program's educational rigor and its ability to provide comprehensive biblical understanding.
Additional benefits reported by graduates include improved interpersonal relationships (25.8%), better stress management and problem-solving abilities (20.4%), and new perspectives on social life and work (16.5%). The program also fostered personal development in areas of forgiveness, love, and tolerance, with 38.3% of graduates reporting growth in these qualities.
The high satisfaction rates further validate the program's effectiveness, with 94.5% of graduates expressing satisfaction with instructors and curriculum, including 73.3% who reported being "very satisfied." The recent graduation ceremony for 59,192 theology students at Cheongju Church in South Korea emphasized the church's commitment to being a positive influence through "qualitative maturity and the restoration of the essence of the Word."
This trend of non-religious individuals finding value in religious education suggests shifting attitudes toward spiritual development and indicates that comprehensive biblical education can provide meaningful personal growth opportunities beyond traditional religious contexts. The program's success in attracting and transforming non-religious participants highlights the potential for religious institutions to serve broader educational and personal development needs in contemporary society.
