Puerto Rico’s Day at the Ballpark returns to Arlington, Texas, on July 21, as the Chicago White Sox face the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field. The event, presented by Discover Puerto Rico and produced by 21 Events, honors Puerto Rico’s contributions to baseball while showcasing the island’s culture and traditions.
Now in its fourth year, the series has grown into a national celebration of Puerto Rican players and their impact on the game. This year’s Texas event will feature an on-field tribute to Rubén Sierra, a former Rangers legend and one of Puerto Rico’s most accomplished outfielders. Sierra played 20 seasons in Major League Baseball, spending parts of seven seasons with Texas and earning two All-Star selections.
“Baseball has always been woven into Puerto Rico’s identity, and our players have left an incredible mark on the game for generations,” said Jorge L. Pérez, CEO of Discover Puerto Rico. “Honoring someone like Rubén Sierra is about recognizing not only an outstanding career, but also the passion, talent, and pride that Puerto Rican players have brought to baseball throughout our history.”
The evening will include a ceremonial first pitch by Pérez, a scoreboard presentation, hospitality experiences, and fan engagement activities. In-stadium signage will highlight Puerto Rico’s lasting influence on America’s pastime.
Ralph Paniagua, Managing Director of 21 Events, emphasized the importance of recognizing players like Sierra. “Rubén Sierra represents an era of Puerto Rican baseball that inspired countless young players both on the Island and throughout the United States. His accomplishments with the Texas Rangers and throughout his Major League career made him one of Puerto Rico’s great ambassadors for the game.”
Following the Texas event, the series will continue in Colorado, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, expanding its mission to honor Puerto Rico’s baseball legacy while promoting the island as a premier destination for culture, sports, and travel.
