Quantica Infrastructure Unveils Big Sky Digital Infrastructure to Power Montana's Digital Future

Quantica Infrastructure, LLC has announced the launch of Big Sky Digital Infrastructure LLC (BSDI), its flagship development platform located on a 5,000-acre site outside Billings, Montana. This ambitious project is set to begin construction in 2026, with an initial capacity of 500 MW of new renewable power and battery energy storage, scalable up to 1 GW. The initiative represents a significant step towards integrating Montana's rich natural resources with the burgeoning digital economy.

Damon Obie, a co-founder of Big Sky Digital Infrastructure and a Montana native, emphasized the project's potential to merge the state's historical industries with future digital advancements. Quantica Infrastructure aims to create a sustainable model that benefits local communities through job creation and infrastructure development, while also addressing the global demand for hyperscale, AI, and cloud computing services.

John Chesser, another co-founder, highlighted the strategic importance of the Big Sky Campus in supporting the digital economy. The project will not only provide renewable energy and high-speed fiber connectivity but also enhance in-state telecommunications, benefiting schools, healthcare, and community services. Charlie Baker, BSDI’s Chief Financial Officer, with over two decades of experience in the Montana power industry, pointed out the project's innovative approach to combining traditional grid power with renewable energy and battery storage to meet sustainability and reliability goals.

The Big Sky Campus is expected to be a hub for economic development, offering construction jobs and permanent positions, thereby fostering local workforce training and economic growth. With plans to connect the site to hundreds of miles of new fiber-ready underground conduit, the project promises to ensure fast and resilient connectivity to major metropolitan areas, further solidifying Montana's position in the digital infrastructure landscape.
