Quantum BioPharma's MS Imaging Study Shows Promise at Midpoint

Quantum BioPharma (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) has reached the halfway point in patient enrollment for its pilot multiple sclerosis (MS) imaging study conducted with Massachusetts General Hospital. Preliminary PET imaging data from the study show encouraging signals in acute MS lesions, according to a recent announcement. This milestone is significant because the novel imaging technique aims to distinguish demyelinated nerve fibers that may still be viable from permanent nerve damage, potentially offering a more precise way to measure myelin loss and repair.

The study's progress is directly relevant to Lucid-MS, the company's investigational compound designed to inhibit demyelination by targeting the enzyme PAD2, which is implicated in myelin degradation. As noted in a recent article, “A more precise imaging tool and a drug candidate designed to address the underlying cause of MS make for a compelling combination. Reaching the enrollment midpoint with promising early data suggests the science is holding up under real clinical conditions.”

Quantum BioPharma is a biopharmaceutical company focused on building a portfolio of innovative assets and biotech solutions for the treatment of challenging neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders, as well as alcohol misuse disorders, with drug candidates in various stages of development. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc. (“Lucid”), Quantum BioPharma is concentrating on the research and development of its lead compound, Lucid-MS. Lucid-MS is a patented new chemical entity shown to prevent and reverse myelin degradation, the underlying mechanism of multiple sclerosis, in preclinical models.

The implications of this progress are substantial for the MS community. If the imaging technique proves successful, it could provide a more accurate biomarker for clinical trials, enabling faster and more reliable assessment of potential therapies. For Quantum BioPharma, this could accelerate the development of Lucid-MS, potentially offering a disease-modifying treatment that addresses the root cause of MS rather than just managing symptoms.

In addition to its MS research, Quantum BioPharma has also developed unbuzzd, a product aimed at reducing alcohol intoxication, and spun out its OTC version to Unbuzzd Wellness Inc. (“UWI”), led by industry veterans. Quantum BioPharma retains ownership of 19.84% (as of March 31, 2026) of UWI, with royalty payments of 7% of sales from unbuzzd until total payments reach $250 million, after which the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity. The company retains 100% of the rights to develop similar products or alternative formulations for pharmaceutical and medical uses.
