Rogue Space Systems Corporation has received a critical $1.25 million contract from SpaceWERX, the innovation arm of the U.S. Space Force, to develop its extensible E-Bus technology for spacecraft platforms. The innovative technology aims to make satellites more flexible and quickly adaptable to diverse mission requirements.
The E-Bus is a low-size, weight, and power (low-SWaP) device that serves dual functions as a power distribution module and networking switch. Its software-configurable data and power ports can accommodate various common interfaces used by spacecraft payloads and subsystems.
The technology's key advantage lies in its scalability and resilience. A single device can support multiple payloads, and redundant devices can provide system fail-over capabilities. The design allows dynamic interconnection between network devices, enabling straightforward reconfiguration and increased operational flexibility.
Michael Pica, Rogue's Chief Technology and Innovation Officer, emphasized that the investment will eliminate the need for hardware non-recurring engineering (NRE) expenses when adapting payloads. CEO Jon Beam described the technology as a crucial step towards making space commerce as commonplace as e-commerce, envisioning a future where spacecraft components can be seamlessly plugged in like modular equipment.
This contract represents a significant advancement in spacecraft development, potentially transforming how satellites are designed, configured, and deployed for various mission objectives.
