SeniorMatch, a leading dating app for senior singles over 50, recently conducted a survey of 387 users aged over 55, revealing significant insights into the dating preferences of middle-aged and elderly individuals. The survey found that 65% of users are looking for serious relationships rather than casual hookups. This demographic prefers to clearly outline their dating intentions and desired relationship types in their profiles, considering potential matches only if they enhance their current peace, solitude, and safety.

Interestingly, the survey also highlighted gender-specific dating behaviors. Among women over 55, 43% prefer not to communicate off-app until meeting in person, while 57% aim to meet within 5-10 days of initial online interaction, often for a lunch or coffee date. Many older women are paid members of SeniorMatch and are more likely to engage with men who are also paying members. On the other hand, male users are inclined to purchase memberships to send messages to profiles they like.

One of the most notable findings is that 53% of users are open to maintaining intimate relationships at a distance, considering it romantic to travel approximately 60 minutes one way to meet someone they like. Kim, a male user of SeniorMatch, expressed his willingness to travel 50 minutes to meet a potential partner, particularly highlighting the feasibility for those living in small towns and rural areas. He emphasized that this distance allows for a balanced relationship, meeting each Friday to Sunday afternoon. Furthermore, Kim mentioned his readiness to move for a stable and committed relationship.

These findings indicate a shift in dating dynamics among seniors, emphasizing the importance of serious relationships and the willingness to travel for love.
