The Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI) organization has launched its Champions Program to recognize organizations that voluntarily exceed regulatory requirements to advance electronics sustainability. This initiative acknowledges a growing trend within the electronics industry where companies are taking leadership roles in environmental stewardship based on perceived value rather than compliance mandates.
The program celebrates organizations in three distinct categories. Promoters are recognized for leading through voluntary sustainable practices, such as including the R2 Standard for responsible electronics reuse and recycling in their Requests for Proposals. Collaborators are acknowledged for partnering with SERI on various programs and initiatives. Supporters are honored for providing significant financial resources to advance SERI's mission of promoting the sustainable use, reuse, and recycling of electronics globally.
This recognition program aligns with SERI's broader 10/35 vision, which aims to make 10-year lifespans common among electronics by 2035 while ensuring all materials are reused at end-of-life. The Champions Program represents one of several initiatives SERI operates to drive this vision forward, alongside programs like the eSummit, ei Reporting Program, ReThink Awards, and the International E-Waste Management Network.

The program's establishment reflects an important industry shift toward voluntary environmental leadership that could significantly impact global electronics sustainability efforts in the coming decade.
