South Auckland Muay Thai Fighters Represent New Zealand with Pride and Resilience in Thailand

Four young Muay Thai athletes from the South Auckland region have demonstrated exceptional skill and cultural pride while competing against the world's best practitioners in Thailand. Jackie Cheng, Johnny Dymond, Cam Tukua, and Moana Watene, representing diverse cultural backgrounds including Cambodian, Tongan, Cook Island, Maori, and Australian heritage, have transformed their journey into a powerful statement of hope for youth in their communities.

The fighters, training primarily at Oliver MMA South Auckland and Victorious Muaythai Brisbane, faced significant challenges during their international competition. Their collective experience, described as "They tried to screw us up, but we pulled through," reflects the obstacles of elite training, mental fortitude requirements, and the constant risk of injury inherent in combat sports. The team's resilience was tested when Jackie Cheng sustained an arm injury during the tour, prompting his teammates to step up with impressive performances.

Johnny Dymond and Cam Tukua, despite their young ages of 20 and 17 respectively, demonstrated remarkable composure and skill in securing vital victories.
