The Audrey Saylor Scholarship for Manufacturing opens its application cycle to undergraduate students across the United States who demonstrate a drive for creative problem-solving and technological advancement in the modern manufacturing sector.
Founded by South Dakota business leader Audrey Saylor, the scholarship addresses the growing need for forward-thinking talent within complex supply chains, engineering discipline, and industrial operations. As the manufacturing landscape evolves alongside global market demands, this initiative provides financial support and national recognition to college students preparing to shape the future of American industry.
The scholarship program reflects the career journey of Audrey Saylor, who transitioned from a background in education to co-found American Engineered Products (AEP) in 2004. Over two decades as Vice President and business owner, Saylor guided AEP to become a global pioneer in specialized metal manufacturing for the casino and video lottery markets. Today, Saylor channels that extensive background in business development and industrial design into supporting emerging scholars nationwide.
"Modern manufacturing relies on continuous adaptation, precision engineering, and bold ideas," states Saylor. "This scholarship exists to support students who possess the vision and determination to solve real-world industrial challenges."
The scholarship is open to undergraduate students at any accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the U.S., regardless of state residency. Applicants must be pursuing a degree in fields such as Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Design, Supply Chain Management, Materials Science, or Business Operations. They must submit an original essay of 500 to 700 words addressing the prompt: "The manufacturing industry thrives on forward-thinking innovation and adapting to global market demands. Drawing inspiration from Audrey Saylor's 20-year history of innovation with metal bases in the casino and lottery industries, write an essay explaining how you plan to bring fresh, creative problem-solving or technological innovation to your chosen field within modern manufacturing."
Submissions will be reviewed based on original research, clarity of thought, and practical application to modern industrial challenges. The selected recipient will receive a one-time grant of $1,000 to assist with higher education expenses. The application deadline is March 15, 2027, and the winner will be announced on April 15, 2027.
This scholarship comes at a time when the manufacturing sector faces a skills gap and increasing global competition.
